Have you ever been typing a message in Microsoft Teams, wanted to skip to the next line, and accidentally sent the message instead?
You’re not alone. This happens all the time.
The fix is very simple:
Use Shift + Enter
What does Shift + Enter do?
- Enter → sends the message
- Shift + Enter → adds a line break (goes to the next line without sending)
That’s it.
This also works in Copilot
The same shortcut applies when you’re chatting with Microsoft Copilot:
- Enter = send
- Shift + Enter = new line
Very useful when you’re writing:
- Longer prompts
- Step-by-step instructions
- Clear, structured questions
Try it in your next Teams message, you’ll be surprised how quickly it becomes second nature.
