In 2025, there’s no reason to settle for a clunky or inconsistent workstation. If you want to get more done with less frustration, your computer setup matters more than ever.
At S3, we talk a lot about digital productivity tools, but today I want to share something more personal: the hardware setup I use every day to stay focused and efficient, whether I’m at the office, at home, or even at the cottage.
Here’s what works, and why I think more people should adopt a similar approach.
My Core Setup: Laptop + Dock + 2 Monitors
Wherever I work, I have the same essential setup:
- A powerful laptop that travels with me
- A docking station at the office, at home, and at the cottage
- Two external monitors, raised up on stands
- My laptop sits centered underneath, with its screen still active
This gives me a triple-screen environment, but more importantly:
- I use the larger monitors for my actual work (emails, documents, browser)
- I use the laptop screen for Microsoft Teams meetings so I can stay centered on camera
It’s ergonomic, consistent, and keeps me in a productive zone no matter where I am.
On the Go? Bring a Mobile Monitor
When I travel, I bring a lightweight portable monitor in my bag. It’s slimand sets up in seconds beside my laptop.
Why?
Because I can’t imagine working with just one screen anymore. Dual screens make multitasking manageable and let me keep emails, calendars, and documents all visible at once.
Bonus Tip: Invest in Great Headphones
A good pair of noise-canceling headphones is one of the best productivity upgrades you can make in 2025.
Whether I’m in a shared office, at home with my son crying, or a hotel lobby, I stay in the zone and sound great on Teams meetings. Clear audio also reduces fatigue during long calls.
If you’re running a team remember: tools impact output. Too many professionals are still working with only one small laptop screen, poor lighting, or unreliable audio. It slows them down more than they realize.
It starts with two monitors. The rest builds from there.
