It still surprises me that in 2025, one of the biggest productivity drains in businesses is… slow computers! When we start working with new clients, I’m often struck by how many employees report being slowed down by their devices.
The problem is that those extra few seconds a computer takes to open an app or a file are just enough to break focus. In that time, employees often grab their phone or open a website. These micro-distractions add up, and over time, they have a major impact on productivity.
And let’s not forget: for many of your employees, the computer is their main work tool. This is not the place to be cheap, it will cost you more in productivity loss.
How to Know if Computers Are Slowing Down Your Team
The easiest way is simply to ask. Use Microsoft Forms (included for free with Microsoft 365 – see my article on how to set it up) and ask a straightforward question:
“Is your computer fast enough not to slow you down in your daily tasks? Rate from 0 to 10.”
The answers will give you a clear picture of where you stand.
